I loved the first Alaskan Courage Book, but this one left me a little disappointed. First, the romance between Piper and Landon drove me crazy. I would've liked to have seen it develop a little more naturally. It seemed a little too contrived. Not only that, it seemed all of their thoughts were wrapped up in each other all of the time.

The law enforcement component was almost laughable. the police chief was over the top stupid. Even when a case seems cut and dried, the police still investigate. If for no other reason than to build their case.

Now the Spoiler Alert:
The part that bothered me the most, however, was the mystery. It started out strong and kept me reading. However, when they got to the heart of the mystery, I wanted to scream. The author needed to do much more research. She should've at least consulted a Diabetic Educator, Pharmacist, Nurse, or Doctor. She also needed to speak to someone in the computer industry. It's almost like she forgot to do any research.

The premise that a microchip for tracking caused insulin to overheat might be plausible. I don't know. However, attributing many deaths to overheated insulin isn't accurate. Most diabetics check their glucose level after taking insulin. If it's still high, they would take more, call the doctor, or go to the ER. The idea the microchip "tainted" insulin would leave a residue in the patient clearly shows that the author didn't understand how diabetes and insulin usage works.

Then, there's the fact that the man who "discovered" the problem "made" a microchip at his desk. In a two second search of Google, I found all of the information on how microchips are made. You cannot simply assemble one at your desk. It takes a multi-billion dollar plant.

The book wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as the first in the series. I had trouble suspending all reality in order for it to make sense.

Shattered Alaskan Courage Volume 2 Dani Pettrey 9780764209833 Books Reviews

This is the second book in the series. The first book is called Submerged . The others are Stranded and Silenced. The fifth book in the series, Sabotaged, comes out January 2015.

At the beginning of this book, we find Landon drowning his sorrows. He loves Piper McKenna desperately but thinks she'll never feel the same way. Then a murder happens and the prime suspect is her brother, Reef. Landon feels like he's part of that family and is worried how Piper will take the news. He's a "play by the rules" person and likes to be logical all the time. He went by his feelings in the past and was burned. He likes to be absolutely sure of things before committing to a decision.

Piper is the opposite. She runs on feelings and what she feels for Landon is quickly evolving into love. She feels torn, because she's trying to find the real killer and sorting through her feelings for Landon. He keeps giving her mixed signals, but they're going to have to talk through it eventually.

The murdered woman had a very tangled past, so finding her killer won't be easy. The search takes them all over the place, including Canada. The plot has a lot of twists and turns, making this an easy read. I finished it in two days!

I love this writer's style. She sets up the relationship between Gage and Darcy for book 3, Stranded, quite nicely, but you're going to be okay if you read them out of order, like I did. The author has a great way of making sure the stories are connected without penalizing you if you skipped a book.
Piper has always been the nosey, pipsqueak, loving sibling in the McKenna household. Her heart is too big and she believes in everyone and everything. She always sees the good in people and situation. She is fiercely loyal to God and her family. When her brother is arrested for the murder of his teammate, she knows he is innocent. She sets out on her own to find the real killer ... putting her life at risk. Landon - an "adopted" brother - knows he will have to put aside his job as Deputy to keep the woman he loves safe - even is she could never love him the same way. Piper is not sure when it happened, but she is seeing Landon in a whole new light - He is gruff, but so handsome. If only he would see her as a woman instead of "pipsqueak".

We also get a peak into Gage and his past - along with his feelings toward God.
i loved this book the two times i read it . I read book 1 of this series two times as well. my only problem with this series is that Dani has so few books out there. i am rationing them out to myself as little rewards for things. *sigh*

ok on to this book itself. I think this is my favourite type of story; friends for life suddenly realise that there could be more... that there IS more to their relationship. Always made better by a guy that's pining away for the girl. I loved how this mystery wasn't straight forward to figure out who dun it. I think I want to visit Alaska now it sounds like a very beautiful place.

I have read 3 books from this series and this book is my favourite one so far. Thank you for an awesome book Dani!
